I occasionally enjoy classic mystery, if only to indulge in a bit of wonderment and a laugh at the outdated behaviors and attitudes of the characters. This book, apparently quite well-received in its day (there is no original publication date on the Kindle edition, but I learned it was originally published in 1902), was no exception. The moneyed and titled characters rule their individual roosts without, apparently, any resentment from the lowly masses who serve them; the main characters vie between shrewd deduction and incredibly naïve and foolish behavior. The women, whether spunky or cowed, faint constantly, and everyone falls desperately in love at the drop of a hat. Despite these flaws, or perhaps because of them, this was a fairly entertaining novel of its sort, with a mystery at least as complex as the many cozy mysteries in constant circulation today.Product details

Grand Babylon Hotel; a nice, quick read that's a lot of fun.

Loved the innocence of the characters. Reminded me of 40's movies where they good guys were soooo! Surprised when the bad guys took advantage of a situation!

Arnold Bennett is an author I admire and was glad to find a source to be able to read this book in my . A little wordy but filled with much elaborate description of the surroundings of the novel. Of course, the good guys were too good and the bad guys were too evil! I enjoyed it very much.
